GENERAL DVD QUESTIONS
The DVD I rented won't play.
We clean all disks as they need it but it is possible
that your disk needs a bit more TLC. Try cleaning the
disc with a soft cloth using a gentle, brushing motion.
If the disk still won't play, it could be a faulty disk
or a compatibility issue. Please ask
Customer Support for advice.
How can I suggest
a new DVD title for you to carry?
Know of a cracking film that we don't seem to carry?
We may be able to get it and we always welcome suggestions
- let
Customer Support know.
Can I purchase
your used DVDs?
Sorry. We don't currently offer our old stock of DVDs
for direct sale to our members.
What is Anamorphic
widescreen? Will it display on my TV/DVD correctly?
Conventional (nearly square) televisions use a 4:3 aspect
ratio (a width of four to a height of three). A widescreen
television has a 16:9 ratio. This is closer to the shape
of a standard cinema screen. Playing a widescreen movie
on an ordinary TV set is possible, but there will be
black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Anamorphic
widescreen squashes an even wider picture onto your
television and usually means that you'll be seeing the
shape as a cinema screen. The film will still play on
a normal 4:3 television, but you should make sure your
DVD player is on a 4:3 setting. Your player will then
automatically letterbox the picture so you see the full
width at the correct proportions.
What is Dolby
Digital and DTS? Will they work with my television/DVD
player?
Dolby Digital and DTS are digital sound formats, which
can make a huge difference to the presentation of the
DVD. To enjoy Dolby Digital and DTS, you must have a
Dolby Digital/DTS decoder, either through an amplifier
or directly on-board the DVD player. You can still play
a Dolby Digital/DTS disc without a decoder, as all DVD
players will output a normal stereo soundtrack from
a Dolby Digital source.
MISCELLANEOUS
What do the BBFC ratings like "PG" and
"12" mean?
There are several BBFC ratings:
U - Universal (suitable for all)
PG - Parental Guidance (general viewing, but some scenes
may be unsuitable for some children)
12 - Suitable only for 12 years and over
15 - Suitable only for 15 years and over
18 - Suitable only for 18 years and over
Parental Controls - you can set your account so that
only films with certain BBFC ratings can be rented.
Why did the release
date of a certain DVD change?
From time to time, despite the best planning, the movie
studios need to delay the release of an already announced
movie. This can be for any number of reasons, and is
unfortunately is outside our control.
